Pride Men’s Soccer Loses in Non-Conference Tilt

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Emerson College, 2-0, Monday night in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Regis Stadium.

After an early flurry by Emerson, Regis gained control of the possession, but consecutive shots by Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) a minute-and-a-half apart were both turned away by Lion goalie Spencer Garnowski. The Lions reclaimed the momentum and, in the 22nd minute, struck first on a goal by Ben Deeming off an assist from Aidan Ferguson.

The Lions continued to pressure the Pride defense in the second half, nearly adding to their lead when a shot by Emmett Biewald in the 57th minute hit the crossbar. Emerson would earn another tally in the 68th minute as RJ Dziejma found Shane Biathrow in the box, and Biathrow blasted a shot into the lower right corner of the net.

Emerson outshot Regis, 19-6, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Garnowski earned the clean sheet as he made three saves, while Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) finished with five saves in 83 minutes before being replaced by Kyle Weidemann (Piscataway, N.J.), who was credited with one save in the final seven minutes of action.

Regis College (6-6-1, 4-4-1 GNAC) hosts Albertus Magnus in the final home match of the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 20, starting at 4:30 p.m., with the Senior Night presentation taking place beforehand. Emerson (3-9-2) also returns to conference play, traveling to face WPI Saturday, Oct. 23, beginning at 4 p.m.
