Men's Soccer Earns Saturday Home Victory

WESTON, Mass. – After scoring twice early in the match, Regis College was able to shut out Dean College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Regis Stadium.

Junior Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) got the scoring started for the Pride four minutes into the first half when he broke away from the Dean defenders and beat the goalie from a tough angle on the left side of the box into the far right side of the net.

Less than three minutes later, the Pride would score again off a string of passes. Sophomore Jacob Freitas (Dracut, Mass.) had the initial flick with his head that was volleyed backward by Pedraza Novak to the feet of Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.), who finished off the scoring play for his third goal of the season.

Dean (3-10, 2-7 GNAC) had a couple of opportunities to pull within one goal in the 81st minute, but a shot by Andrew Dalton was cleared away by the Pride defense before it could cross over the goal line. A Regis handball within the box led to a penalty kick attempt for the Bulldogs, but Dylan Monaghan's shot hit the crossbar.

Regis goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) made five saves which, in addition to the team save, led to the shutout for the Pride. Dean goalkeeper Bryce Antoch finished with seven saves. The total shots were fairly even with Dean edging out the Pride, 16-14.

Regis College (6-5-1, 4-4-1 GNAC) next hosts Emerson in a non-conference matchup Monday, Oct. 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs go on the road to face off against Johnson & Wales Wednesday, Oct. 20, starting at 3 p.m.
