WESTON, Mass. – Goals by Diego Roman (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) in each half guided Regis College to a 2-1 victory over Anna Maria College Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's collegiate soccer match at Regis Stadium.

After allowing an own goal in the ninth minute to give the AMCATS a 1-0 lead, Regis started putting pressure on the defense, with Jeremiah Frias (San Diego, Calif.) and Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) both challenging Anna Maria goalie Kyle Sherman with shots on goal in the 13th minute. Later in the half, the Pride drew a corner kick, and Luke Ayotte (Cromwell, Conn.) found Roman in the box for a header that reached the back of the net, tying the contest at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Pride continued to attack within its offensive zone in the second half, finally converting in the 77th minute as the rebound off a shot by Jacob Freitas (Dracut, Mass.) landed at Roman's feet, and Roman slid the ball past Franklin to put Regis on top.

Anna Maria (0-3-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) started to put together opportunities to score the tying goal, with Rubelsi Moran and Bryan Gonzalez taking shots that needed to be turned away by Pride goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.). As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the AMCATS made one final charge, but Beckmann slid to corral a long pass before an on-rushing Daniel Passucci reached it.

Beckmann finished with four saves as he earned his second victory of the season, while Franklin was credited with nine saves during the match. Regis doubled the shot total of Anna Maria, led by Pedraza Novak with five shots and Roman with four shots, while Moran led the AMCATS with four total shots.

Regis (3-0-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) heads to Providence, R.I., to face Johnson & Wales next Friday evening, Sept. 17, starting at 6 p.m. Anna Maria plays a non-conference contest at Salem State Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. before resuming GNAC play at Emmanuel next Saturday, Sept. 18, at 12 p.m.
