Pride Fall to Albertus Magnus in GNAC Contest

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Regis College men's soccer team scored in the first ten minutes of the match, but it was not enough to take down the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College, as the Pride lost 5-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match Wednesday.

After the Falcons had the first shot attempt of the game, Regis gained possession as Branden Tan (Bodrum, Turkey) made a run towards the net. Tan collected the ball and fired his shot just wide of the net.

Regis scored in the ninth minute when Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) fired a shot from the right corner of the 18-yard box over the head of the Falcons' goalkeeper.

The Pride missed out on a chance in the 20th minute when Tan had a shot that was blocked by an Albertus defender. Cesar Da Silva (Boca Raton, Fla.) then collected the loose ball and shot the ball just outside the upper right corner of the net.

The Falcons tied the match at 1-1 after Peter Rivera found Salah Oumorou on a pass to open space. Oumorou turned and ran down the sideline towards the net before firing a shot in the lower left corner.

At the half, the Pride had taken 10 shots with three on net. Albertus Magnus had one shot on goal with two total attempts.

Oumorou scored 6:21 into the second half after collecting the ball and running down the end line, shooting across net into the far right corner. Just 1:26 later, Tyler Saad scored directly off the corner kick, giving the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

In the 60th minute, Oumorou found Abdoul Aremu in front of the net. Aremu then directed the ball into the lower left corner of the net. With 25:27 remaining in the second half, Aremu crossed the ball to Michael Hidalgo, who was able to get a head on it, directing the ball to the back of the net.

At the end of the match, Albertus held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, while Regis held a 10-6 advantage in corner kick attempts.
