WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Emmanuel College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Regis Stadium.
Regis enjoyed two solid scoring chances early in the match, but shots by Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) in the 13th minute and Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) in the 17th minute were turned away by Emmanuel goalie Vincent Conelli.
A few minutes after a shot by Pedraza Novak hit the right post, Robert Danielian and Kyle Monaghan set up Alec Erskine for the first goal of the match, putting the Saints ahead 1-0. The Pride were only able to take a couple off-target shots the rest of the first half.
Emmanuel (4-4, 1-1 GNAC) threatened to extend its lead within the first five minutes of the second half, but Pride keeper Ivan Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) turned away shots by Thomas Roberts and Erskine. In the 58th minute, the Saints succeeded in increasing the lead when Sean Allen notched a goal off an assist by Kyle King.
The Pride took more shots than the Saints, 13-8, but only two Regis attempts were on goal, and Conelli saved both of them to pick up the clean sheet. Ramirez was credited with four saves in the loss.
Regis (2-5, 0-2 GNAC) hosts Saint Joseph's College in a rescheduled match, as the conference contest has been moved from Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. to Thursday, Oct. 3, starting at 3:30 p.m. The Pride will then travel to face Anna Maria Saturday, Oct. 5, beginning at 4 p.m., earlier than originally scheduled.
