Regis Men’s Soccer Cruises to GNAC Road Win

NASHUA, N.H. – The Regis College men's soccer team enjoyed its best offensive output in close to two years, defeating Rivier University 6-0 Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field.

After scoring the game-winning goal Monday at Pine Manor, Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) started the offense for the Pride, taking a feed from Branden Tan (Bodrum, Turkey) and earning his second goal of the year just over 11 minutes into the contest. The Pride continued to pressure the Raiders, including a shot by Jared Barroso (Central Falls, R.I.) in the 26th minute that hit the post.

In the 31st minute, Ken Niyonzima (Dracut, Mass.) collected his fifth goal of the season to increase the Regis lead to 2-0. Rivier attempted to cut that lead in half in the final minute of the first half, but Pride goalie Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) was able to turn away a shot by Brandon Silva, keeping the score 2-0 in Regis's favor at halftime.

After Rivier made a change in net, Tan scored his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Just over five minutes later, Brendan Plasczynski (Bristol, Conn.) picked up his own rebound and earned his third goal of the year to extend the Pride advantage to 4-0.

Just under six minutes after Plasczynski's goal, Niyonzima earned his second goal of the night, with Tan collecting his second assist of the match. Marcos Rivera (San Juan, Puerto Rico) completed the scoring in the 71st minute with his first career collegiate goal.

Bonilla earned his third shutout of the season with three saves, including a save on a shot by Carlo Eideh in the 73rd minute to maintain the clean sheet. Regis outshot Rivier, 24-3, led by Tan and Niyonzima with five shots apiece.

The six goals scored by the Pride are the most in a single match this season and the most by Regis since an 11-1 victory at Wheelock Oct. 26, 2016.

Regis (6-4-2, 3-4-2 GNAC) closes the regular season with four straight home matches, beginning Saturday, Oct. 13, against Becker beginning at 3 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
