Men’s Soccer Faces Tall Order at Saint Joseph’s In GNAC Semifinal

WESTON, Mass. - The fifth-seeded Regis (Mass.) men’s soccer team turned in a historic win at Mount Ida on Sunday, beating the Mustangs 3-1 to advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals and a matchup vs. Saint Joseph’s College. The win was the first GNAC Tournament victory in Regis Athletics history.

Regis (10-7-1) will visit Saint Joseph’s (16-0-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 1 with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.

To say pulling off a win against Saint Joseph’s will be a tall order is an understatement. The top-seeded Monks have not allowed a goal all season long with the one blemish on their record an overtime tie vs. Norwich who plays Johnson & Wales (RI) in the other semifinal.

The Pride fell to the Monks 3-0 at Regis Stadium nearly one month ago in their lone matchup of the season. SJCME had the lionshare of the possession but the Pride managed to enter halftime with the scoresheet clean. The Monks scored less than five minutes into the second half and wore the Pride down, putting in two more goals in the game’s final 15 minutes.
