Men's Soccer Falls to Pine Manor

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team dropped its fourth consecutive decision on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Pine Manor College in non-conference play at Regis Stadium.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 7-7-0 on the season, while the Gators improve to 8-4-1.

The teams played a closely contested first half that came to a close without a score. The Pride outshot the Gators 5-4 in the periods, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Nearly nine minutes into the second half, it was the Gators who tallied the game's first goal. Sophomore Diego Herrera (El Paso, Texas) played a perfectly timed ball up the middle, finding senior Jahvar Gayle (Bloomfield, Conn.) streaking toward the cage. Gayle deposited the ball into the bottom right corner of the net past a diving Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) to give the Gators a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

The Gators struck for their second goal of the game in the 64th minute. Pine Manor defender Alan Urquiza (Houston, Texas) took a feed from junior Jose Corrales (El Paso, Texas) and chipped the ball over Bonilla to extend the lead to 2-0, which would hold as the game's final score.

Bonilla was credited with the loss on the afternoon, making five saves in the defeat. The win went to Pine Manor's Angel Pena (Eagle Pass, Texas) who improved to 4-3 on the season with a four-save shutout.

Next up for the Pride, they will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a 5:00 p.m. home match against Rivier on Tuesday evening. The Gators will resume play the same night, hosting Newbury College at 3:30 p.m.
