Furbino Nets Two, Men's Soccer Too Much For Becker

LEICESTER, Mass.Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scored a goal in each half to lift the Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Becker in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Regis improves its record on the season to 6-3 while Becker falls to 1-7.

Regis sophomore midfielder Daniel Montoya (Revere, Mass.) got the scoring started in the 19th minute, recovering a save off a shot from junior midfielder Litchie Barbosa (Boston, Mass.) and putting it home to put the Pride up 1-0.

In the 40th minute, Furbino scored the insurance goal on another put-back for the Pride, with the assist going to sophomore forward Ken Niyonzima (Burlington, Mass.). The teams went into halftime with Regis leading 2-0.

In the 53rd minute, Regis junior midfielder Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) lined up for a free kick, putting a ball through the defense and into the corner of the goal to help the Pride take a commanding 3-0 lead. The visitors fourth goal of the day came in the 75th minute when Furbino scored unassisted.

The Hawks finally broke through in the 76th minute, when freshman midfielder Lemar Baptista (Brockton, Mass.) penetrated the Pride defense and shot the ball past the keeper for the first goal of his collegiate career.

Becker freshman goalkeeper Sam Majewski (Warren, Mass.) finished the day with 12 saves for the Hawks. Regis junior goalkeeper Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) allowed no goals in 74:55 with six stops. The Pride outshot the Hawks, 29-15.

Regis next plays host to Lasell College on Saturday, 5:00 p.m. at RegisFest with Becker back on the field Saturday as well versus the University of Maine-Preque Isle.
