Men's Soccer Suffers Sudden Victory Loss To Lesley

WESTON, Mass. - Sophomore defender Tiago Pacheco (Cranston, R.I.) scored 8:27 into the first overtime period, leading Lesley University to a 2-1 victory over the Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team on Wednesday night at Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Lynx improve to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Pride suffers its first loss and falls to 1-1-0.

The Lynx got on the board first on the evening, as senior Wilton Zuo (Dorchester, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Zuo received a feed from the righthand side by classmate Nuno Pereira (Sao Filipe, Cape Verde) and slid it past Regis goalkeeper Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead.

The score was still 1-0 early in the second half when Pride senior Daniel Calderone (Wellesley, Mass.) evened the score with his first goal of the season in the 50th minute. After a corner kick from Litchie Barbosa (Boston, Mass.) was flicked past the far post by Collin Thurston (Temecula, Calif.), Calderone gathered the ball and appeared to be looking to cross the ball back in, but instead tricked the keeper and curled it into the top corner of the net from a seemingly impossible angle to run the score to 1-1. Neither team had many high quality scoring chances in the game's remaining 40 minutes, and the game headed to sudden death.

After a Pride foul right in front of their bench in the overtime, Lesley's Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.) curled a free kick into the box and a traffic jam in front of Bonilla's net caused the ball to pop back up in the air. Pacheco was able to get his head to the ball before a Regis defender, and the sophomore nodded it into the net to give the Lynx the road victory.

Bonilla was credited with the loss in goal for the Pride after finishing the night with three saves. Senior James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) picked up his second win of the season for the Lynx, making six saves.

The Pride will look to return to the win column on Saturday as the team plays Anna Maria on the road in its first ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference game. Lesley return to the pitch on the same day, traveling to Wentworth for a 3:00 p.m. kick off.
