Regis Men's Soccer Picks Up RegisFest Win

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team earned its seventh home win in seven tries on Saturday afternoon, as the Pride defeated the Southern Vermont College Mountaineers 5-0.

With the win, Regis improves to 9-4-1 on season (4-0-1 NECC). The loss drops Southern Vermont to 4-7-2 (1-2-2 NECC).

Pride senior Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.) opened the scoring early on, scoring his fifth goal of the season in the second minute. After Mountaineer goalkeeper Chris Jimenez (Newark, N.J.) turned away a point blank chance from Regis sophomore Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), Sindoni jumped all over the rebound, burying the early goal.

Triana made the most of his second opportunity on the afternoon, burying a rebound goal to extend the Pride lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute. The goal was the sophomore's first of two goals on the afternoon, as he fired a laser past Jimenez for the fifth Pride goal early in the second half.

Regis midfielders David Venegas (Escondido, Calif.) and Daniel Calderone (Wellesley, Mass.) also tallied first half for the Pride, giving the team a 4-0 lead going into the break.

Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) earned the win in goal for the Pride, with Gabriel Montealegre (Managua, Nicaragua) and Andrew Barros (Malden, Mass.) coming on in relief to preserve the shutout. For Southern Vermont, Jimenez was credited with the loss despite making 10 saves.

Next up for the Pride, they will host Dean College in non-conference action on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will be back in action the same day when they host Elms in NECC play.
