Men's Soccer Ends Three-Game Road Trip with Loss at RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior forward Don Gomez (Lynn, Mass.) tallied a second half goal on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough, as the Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to the Rhode Island College Anchormen.

With the loss, the Pride drops to 2-3 on the season, while Rhode Island College evens their record to 2-2.

RIC got on the board first when senior midfielder Thomas Wampler (Attleboro, Mass.) took a free kick and sent the ball to the far post and senior forward Kevin Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.). Arboleda then headed the ball to junior defender Elimane Seye (Providence, R.I.) who blasted in a shot at the 18:18 mark to give RIC the 1-0 advantage. The Anchormen extended their lead to 2-0 just over a minute later as junior forward Steven Cardoso (Pawtucket, RI) buried a shot from 15 yards out for the two goal lead.

Komla Dogbey (Providence, R.I.) set up RIC's third goal in the 32nd minute as he took the ball from a Regis defender, carried the ball through the midfield and sent a through ball to sophomore midfielder Dennis Vazquez (Providence, R.I.). Vazquez avoided the oncoming keeper then slipped the ball into the lower right corner of the net for the 3-0 lead. The Anchormen took the three goal lead heading into halftime after outshooting Regis by an 8-2 margin.

Junior midfielder Ty Catunto (New Bedford, Mass.) scored the fourth goal of the game with an assist credited to senior defender Evan Rosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) to make the score 4-0 in the 49th minute. Regis responded in the 51st minute as Gomez scored on a breakaway down the middle of the field assisted by senior forward Dillon Lanctot (Somersworth, N.H.) and junior forward Jefferson Lormier (Lynn, Mass.). RIC tacked on an insurance goal by Seye, his second goal of the game, with assists to Dogbey and Vazquez off a corner kick to propel RIC to the 5-1 victory.

Senior goalkeepers Chris Moura (Rumford, R.I.) (two saves) and Alexander LaBreche (Lincoln, R.I.) (two saves) combined for the win for RIC, while senior Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) tallied four saves in the loss for Regis.

Next on the docket for the Pride is Lasell College, who they will host on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Anchormen open a four-game road trip at Bridgewater State University the same day, with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
