REGIS CLAWS PAST WILDCATS ON SENIOR DAY

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team defeated Wheelock College 8-0 Wednesday evening on a rain soaked affair held at Regis Stadium. With the victory, the Pride improve to 10-6-1, 4-3 NECC and with the setback, the Wildcats end their season at 0-14, 0-8 NECC.

Before the game, the men's soccer team honored seniors Christian Mukala (Malden, Mass.), Mike Panagiotakos (Methuen, Mass.), Renato Rosas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Graham Sutherland (N. Kingstown, R.I.) for their contributions to the team and the Regis athletic department.

Regis opened up the scoring three minutes into the game as Brendan Plasczynski (Bristol, Conn.) scored his first goal of the contest. Two minutes after his goal, he assisted on senior Graham Sutherland's second goal of the season to push the Pride upfront 2-0 five minutes into the contest.

Plasczynski chipped in another goal 58 seconds later for his fifth point of the contest.

The Pride didn't add another goal until the 37th minute when Mauro Barbosa (Dorchester, Mass.) connected on a shot past Wildcat keeper Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.). Don Gomez (Lynn, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in the first half as he scored off a give and go with teammate Jefferson Lorimer (Lynn, Mass.).

The Crimson and Gold headed into the break with a 5-0 advantage and added three more goals in the second half as Lorimer and Armando Lezama (Salem, Mass.) tallied goals while Barbosa scored his second of the contest.

With Regis ahead 8-0 the referees called the game during the 70th minute of play due to torrential downpours.

Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) made one save and got the win while Andrew Barros (Malden, Mass.) came on in relief and played 33:16 in the cage. Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.) stopped 17 shots in the setback.

Regis wraps up their season on Saturday when they travel to Elms at 4:30 p.m.
