PRIDE CRUISE PAST SVC, 6-1

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Regis College cruised to a 6-1 victory over Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer action at Everett Field.

Regis tallied three goals in each period while blanking SVC through the opening 45 minutes. Pride freshman Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scored the first goal of the day and then assisted on what proved to be the game winner, while sophomore Jefferson Lorimer (Lynn, Mass.) had a goal and a helper of his own. Mountaineer freshman Nikolas Joseph (Coventry, Conn.) registered the lone Southern Vermont goal in the second half, sniping home a free kick from just outside the top of the box.

The Mountaineers (4-10, 2-3 NECC) are back in action on Tuesday when they head to Elms College for a 4:00 p.m. NECC kickoff. Regis (8-6-1, 2-3 NECC) is off until next Saturday, October 24, resuming the league schedule with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Mitchell College.

Regis evens the all-time series at 3-3 with the day's victory.

Triana got the Pride on the scoreboard in the 13th minute to give them an early lead. RC sophomore Collin Thurston (Temecula, Calif.) leapt up and got his head on the ball towards the right side of the SVC box, sending it across the frame to Triana who buried his sixth goal of the year. The Pride freshman then set up sophomore Devin Brady (Springfield, Vt.) with 25:15 to go in the half, playing it in towards the middle of the field from the right side. Brady collected, lined up, and sent his shot into the left side of the goal for his third of the season and eventual second game winner.

Regis recorded one more before the break when junior Trevor Hamilton (Winchester, Mass.) corralled a ball headed away by the SVC defense; he took a controlling touch from about 25 yards out and lofted a shot into the top right corner of the frame for his first score of the year and 3-0 RC upper hand.

Lorimer notched his goal in the 55th minute of the match when the Pride offense got deep into the left side of SVC territory. Junior Don Gomez (Lynn, Mass.) brought the ball towards the middle and caused the Mountaineer keeper to come towards him, opening up the box for Lorimer to run through and slide his second into the open net. Joseph helped cut the deficit after his teammate was taken down just outside of the penalty area with 23:45 to go in the game. The Mountaineer freshman took the free kick from the middle of the pitch, firing it perfectly into the top left corner for his fourth goal of the year.

The score remained 4-1 in favor of the Pride for the next 16 minutes before Regis padded its lead with a pair of late scores, the first being when Lorimer found freshman Mauro Barbosa (Dorchester, Mass.) in the right side of the box; he took a touch and slotted the ball across the frame, into the lower left side netting for his first collegiate tally. An SVC own goal sealed the scoring as the Pride ended the Mountaineers' win streak with their second Conference victory of the year.

RC senior captain Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) made two saves during his 72 minutes in net for the win while SVC freshman counterpart Noah Chani (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) turned away three Regis shots in the effort.
