TRIANA LEADS PRIDE TO FIRST NECC WIN

LEICESTER, Mass. – Freshman Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scored a pair of goals to help lead Regis College to a 3-0 win over Becker College on Monday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer action. The win lifts the Pride record to 7-6-1 (1-3-0 NECC), while the Hawks remain winless at 0-14-0 (0-4-0 NECC).

After a scoreless first half, Regis got on the board 59 seconds into the second frame on a turnover in front of the Hawks net. Don Gomez (Lynn, Mass.) stole the ball from a Becker defender inside the box and centered it to Derek Triana who one touched it into the bottom left corner of the net.

Regis added to their lead in the 54th minute when Amandio Ferreira (Dorchester, Mass.) laced a shot through the grasp of Benjamin Cadman's (Harvard, Mass.) hands from 30 yards out. The Pride increased their advantage to 3-0 in the 58th minute when Derek Triana gathered a pass from Brendan Plasczysnki (Bristol, Conn.) near the far post, tipping it past the drive of Cadman.

Benjamin Cadman suffered the loss after making 14 saves while Regis keeper Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) stopped the only shot he faced to earn the victory.

Both teams will continue NECC action on Saturday, October 17th. Becker will travel to Mitchell College at noon, while Regis heads to Southern Vermont College for a 3:30 p.m. tilt with the Mountaineers.
