REGIS BLANKS LASERS, 2-0

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team used a pair of goals from Devin Brady (Springfield, Vt.) and six saves from keeper Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) to shutout Lasell College, 2-0, on Wednesday night in non-conference action. The Pride improve to 6-5-1 overall with the win, while the Lasers drop to 1-8.

The two teams traded chances early as Cian Moriarty (Quincy, Mass.) and Nick Liquori (Westfield, Mass.) each fired shots on Santiago through traffic in front of the net, but the Regis keeper was able to make the stop. Amandio Ferreira (Dorchester, Mass.) had the Pride's first chance of the day as he hit a low line drive on a free kick that was on frame and forced Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) to punch the ball away.

Devin Brady broke open the scoring in the 18th minute as Renato Rosas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) played the ball deep into the left side of the box. Brady used one dribble move to his left and lofted a curling shot on net that tucked just inside the opposite post for his first goal of the season.

Santiago was challenged in the 27th minute as Jonathan Sutton (Orange, Conn.) played a long shot into the box that the junior keeper cleared away. On the ensuing goal kick, the Lasers forced a turnover and regained possession, leading to a shot from Liquori at the top of the box that Santiago was able to control. The game entered the half with the Pride on top 1-0.

Lasell nearly had the equalizer in the opening minutes of the second period as Jonathan Hislop (Arlington, Mass.) forced a turnover and played a nifty through ball to Liquori. Liquori had Santiago beat, but the whistle was blown for offsides as the score remained 1-0.

In the 65th minute of the game, Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) worked the ball down the right side, losing three defenders as he made his way into the box. The freshman fired a shot that was tipped by a defender into the air, and Devin Brady slid under the ball and chipped it out of the air and into the back of the net to give the Pride a 2-0 lead with his second tally of the game.

With less than 10 minutes to play, Liquori played a ball to the right side of the box to Conor Fitzgerald (Marshfield, Mass.). Fitzgerald found himself 1-on-1 with Santiago, but his shot sailed high and left of its mark. Cian Moriarty had the final chance of the day for the Lasers in the final minute, but his header off a corner kick missed wide, and Regis held on for the 2-0 victory.

The Pride held a 14-13 edge in shots, and also took seven corner kicks to just two for Lasell. Santiago picked up his second shutout of the year with his six saves, while Lasell's Colmenares stopped seven shots in the setback.

The Crimson and Gold return to New England Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon when they take on the defending NECC champion Daniel Webster College in a 1:00 p.m. matchup. Lasell travels to Rivier University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
