PRIDE PICK UP SENIOR DAY SHUTOUT, 3-0

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College Men's Soccer Team used three goals from three different players to pick up a 3-0 victory against New England Collegiate Conference rival Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon in a contest that was played on Senior Day at Regis Stadium. With the victory, the Pride advance to 7-10-0, 3-3 NECC on the year and with the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 2-13-1, 1-4-1 NECC.

Prior to the game, seniors Nana Kwarteng (Milford, Mass.) and Larry Bolduc (Saugus, Mass.) were recognized for their contributions to the program over the last four years in what would be their final regular season home contest. A few words about each player from Coach Capobianco were announced prior to the starting lineups.

Regis opened the game with seven consecutive shots during the first 16 minutes of play, none of which found the back of the net. Attempts by junior midfielder Renato Rosas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), freshman Amandio Ferreira (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore forward Dillon Lanctot (Somersworth , N.H.) all either went wide, high or were denied by Mountaineer goalie freshman Cody Gross (Fair Lawn, N.J.)

The Mountaineers raced down the other end of the field and were hoping to open up the scoring in the contest. Pride goaltender Manny Calderon (Bristol, Conn.) wanted none of that as he stifled Mountaineer defender junior Daveon Lamar Logan's (Los Angeles, Calif.) header attempt off a crossing pass. Calderon faced two more shots during a two minute span as sophomore forward Marc Massena (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) shot went wide and turning away senior midfielder Erik Argueta's (Pico Rivera, Calif.) scoring chance.

After missing on two shot attempts earlier in the game, the third time was the charm for Dillon Lanctot. Lanctot and the Pride opened the scoring during the 27:22 mark after an attempt by fellow teammate and Senior Day honoree Nana Kwarteng hit off the goalie. The loose ball rebound in front of the net was corralled by Lanctot who rifled a shot that hit off the post and ended up in the back of the net. Lanctot's goal was his third of the season and gave the Pride a 1-0 advantage.

Six minutes later, Regis struck again after a pass from 30 yards out by sophomore midfielder Trevor Hamilton (Winchester, Mass.) found freshman defender Brendan Plasczynski (Bristol, Conn.). Plasczynski then hammered the ball to the opposite post and found its way in the cage. Plasczynski's goal was his sixth of the season, tying him for the team lead and upped the Pride lead to 2-0.

The Mountaineers tried to cut the deficit in half before the break but attempts by Daveon Lamar Logan and by Erik Argueta were both denied by Manny Calderon.

Renato Rosas added his second goal of the season during the 69:20 mark after Lanctot crossed the ball from the bottom left side of the box, to the top center of the box were Rosas was waiting. Rosas fired the ball immediately to the bottom left corner of the net just out of the reach of the keeper.

The Mountaineers were outshot by the Pride 22-9 during the contest and Regis held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Manny Calderon earned his fourth victory of the year and stopped four shots. Freshman goaltender Greg Koutroukas (Watertown, Mass.) came on in relief and made three saves during the second half. Mountaineer goalie Cody Gross made nine saves during the defeat. Pride forward Dillon Lanctot had three points during the victory with his goal and the assist on Renato Rosas goal.

Regis looks to carry the momentum of their three-game winning streak on the road next Saturday, November 1st when they wrap up the regular season against conference foe Mitchell College with game time set for 1:00 p.m. The Mountaineers ship back up to Vermont for their Senior Day contest next Saturday against conference rival Newbury College with kick-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
