EAGLES FLY BY PRIDE, 2-0

NASHUA, N.H. – Daniel Webster College scored a goal in each half as the Eagles defeated Regis College, 2-0, on Monday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer action in Nashua, N.H.

The win pushed DWC to 8-4-1 overall (3-1 NECC) and marked the earliest the program has reached the eight-win mark since 2010. Regis moved to 4-10 overall (1-3 NECC) with the setback.

Eagle goalkeeper Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) was again strong, making nine saves for his fourth shutout of the year (12th career) including seven in the second half. Manny Calderon (Bristol, Conn.) made 14 saves for the Pride with eight coming in the opening frame.

The hosts grabbed the lead with a key play in just the 12th minute as Joey Morgan (Windham, N.H.) found Ian Hutchinson (Litchfield, N.H.) at the top of the box. Hutchinson then shifted right, holding off two defenders and buried a 10-yarder that just clipped past Calderon to the high left corner for his second goal of the season. The 1-0 score carried to halftime.

The Eagles stole early momentum in the second as Marcos Vieira Filho (Pernambuco, Brazil) cut down the right side and after pushing past one defender, tied a soft pass up high to Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Maine), who tipped the shot past Calderon for a 2-0 game in the 46th. It was Ottman's fourth of the year.

Regis, which had been limited to just three first half shots, picked up the pace in the second, testing Hamilton with eight attempts in the second, including a shot in close from Renato Rosas that was turned away in the 60th. Regis' best chance came with 11 minutes left as Prince Mukala (Malden, Mass.) hopped on a loose ball from five yards out on the left post but was stoned by Hamilton at point blank range.

Regis pushed again in the final minutes but a Larry Bolduc (Saugus, Mass.) chance off a Pride corner kick was again knocked down by Hamilton in close to preserve the shutout.

The teams would combine for 33 fouls and four cards while DWC finished with a 16-9 shots on goal advantage.

Regis hosts NECC foe Becker on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
