WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team recently released their 2014 game schedule, which will feature nine home games and ten non-conference opponents. The Pride, who wrapped up last season with a 7-9-2 record, will be looking to return to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournament for the third straight year.
Regis opens up the season at Mount Ida on Aug. 31 before returning to Weston for a pair of home matches against Emerson and Albertus Magnus on Sept. 3 and Sept. 6, respectively. The Mustangs and Lions got the best of the Pride a season ago, but the Pride registered a 2-1 victory over the Falcons after scoring a pair of goals in the final five minutes of play.
Regis then heads for back-to-back away contests against New England College (Sept. 10) and Rhode Island College (Sept. 13), each of whom edged the Pride last year, before hosting Anna Maria two days later. The Pride and Amcats played to a 2-2 draw in the 2013-14 campaign.
On Sept. 17 Regis will be looking to avenge a 2-1 loss from last year when they travel to take on Suffolk, while a week later they will begin a three game stretch of home contests against Fitchburg State (Sept. 24), Elms (Sept. 27), and Eastern Nazarene (Oct. 1). The Pride fell to the eventual NECC Champion Blazers a season ago but edged both the Falcons and the Lions by 1-0 scores.
The Crimson & Gold then hit the road for two straight contests against Lesley on Oct. 4 and Lasell on the 8th. The Pride will be looking for a winning result against a tough Lesley squad, which knocked Regis out of the NECC Tournament for the second time in as many years this past Fall after the two programs played to a tie in the regular season.
Three of the remaining five games in October will be played in Weston, including league games with Newbury on the 11th, Becker on the 18th, and Southern Vermont on the 25th. The remaining two against Daniel Webster (Oct. 13) and Wheelock (Oct. 29) will be away. Last year, Regis registered wins over the Mountaineers, Hawks, and Eagles, but fell to the Nighthawks.
The Pride will once again close out the regular season against Mitchell, which is a scheduled for a Nov. 1 road contest. Regis captured a thrilling 2-0 victory over the Mariners on Senior Day last season to knock them out of first place in the conference standings.
The NECC playoffs will kick off with the Quarterfinals on Nov. 5. The NECC Semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 7 and the Championship will be decided on Nov. 9.
