FIVE MEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS RECEIVE ALL-NECC RECOGNITION

WESTON, Mass. – Five players from the Regis College men's soccer team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) as All-Conference selections, it was announced by the league's offices on Monday morning. Highlighting the selections were seniors Nick Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) and Angel Aguilar (Silver Springs, Md.), who were each named First Team All-Conference.

Also recognized was senior Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.), who was named to the Second Team, as well as seniors Ricardo Argueta (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.), who were each named Honorable Mention.

Selections were based on a vote amongst the league's coaches.

Tavares played in 14 games this year for the Pride, while starting 13 of them. He anchored a backline which shutout five opponents throughout the season and scored the eventual game-winner in a 2-1 victory over NECC opponent Southern Vermont on Oct. 19.

Aguilar was a mainstay in the midfield, playing in 18 games this season, while starting 17. He scored one goal during the year, which proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 shutout win over Fitchburg State on Sept. 25. This marks the second straight year that Aguilar was honored as an All-NECC honoree, as he was named to the All-NECC Second Team last fall.

Todorovic was solid all year in between the pipes, starting and playing in 13 contests and logging 1128:35 minutes this year for Regis. The goalkeeper registered three shutouts during the season while maintaining a 1.52 goals against average and .655 save percentage. This marks the second consecutive season that Todorovic was honored as an All-NECC Second Team selection.

Despite being limited by injury, Argueta made an impact in the midfield after playing in 11 games and starting nine of those. He recorded three points on the season off of one goal and one assist. His lone goal of the year came in a 2-0 win over Mitchell on Oct. 26, which helped the Pride capture home-field advantage in the NECC Quarterfinals.

Rounding out the selections was Caliendo, a defender who contributed both offensively and defensively after starting 16 out of the 17 games he played in. Caliendo not only helped the Pride shutout five opponents during the season, but he also led the team and ranked second in the conference with five assists, one of which was the helper in a 1-0 win over Eastern Nazarene on Oct. 16.

Regis finished the year with a 7-9-2 record, which included a trip to the NECC playoffs for the second consecutive year. The record marks the highest winning percentage in program history. Collectively, this slew of seniors have contributed to a 25-44-5 overall mark through their playing careers for the Pride.
