REGIS DROPS ROAD GAME AT NEWBURY

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Regis College men's soccer team fell to Newbury College, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. With the loss, the Pride fall to 2-8-2, 0-2-1 NECC, while the Nighthawks remain unbeaten in league play (2-0) and 4-7 overall.

Over a span of five minutes, Newbury erupted for three quick goals to take a commanding 3-0 lead by the 21st minute. Freshman Christian Rodriguez (Central Falls, R.I.) scored back-to-back goals to open up the scoring on the day, with the first coming unassisted and the second coming from sophomore Milton Ricuarte (Central Falls, R.I.). Senior Bryan Barrios (Central Falls, R.I.) made it a 3-0 game when he scored an unnassisted goal at the 20:22 mark.

The Pride were able to cut the lead to two goals just over fifteen minutes later when freshman forward Don Gomez (Lynn, Mass.) headed the ball into the back of the net off a throw in from senior Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.). Shortly after, Caliendo connected again with another freshman. Marek Kotecki (Milton, Mass.) headed Caliendo's throw in past goalkeeper Cody Nash-Gibney (South Burlington, Vt.) to make the score 3-2.

Unfortunately for Regis, Newbury would go on to score three more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach. Junior Rodriquez Pierre (Somerville, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal in the 60th minute, and freshman Ethan Forrest (East Bridgewater, Mass.) would go on to score back-to-back goals of his own in the 77th and 79th minutes. Forrest's first was unassisted, while his second goal was assisted by classmate Alex Carvajal (Medellin, Columbia).

Freshman Manny Calderon (Bristol, Conn.) finished with five saves in goal for Regis, who returns to action on Monday when they host Daniel Webster at 4 p.m.
