PRIDE TIE UP EAGLES 1-1 IN 2OT

WESTON, Mass.-The Regis College Men's soccer team played  Daniel Webster College to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Wednesday night at the Regis College Athletic Complex. The Pride moves to 6-11-1 overall on the season and 2-5-1 in NECC play. The visiting Eagles move to 9-5-2 overall on the season and 6-1-1 in the NECC standings.

The Eagles got on the board first in the 34th minute when Alex Jackson (Kent, Ohio) carried the ball to the top of the box and moved it quickly to Paul Hoy (Merrimack, N.H.) who found an open Spencer Bernard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) on the crease to put the Eagles up 1-0. The final ten minutes of the first period would finish with a volley of shots by the Pride but Eagle goalkeeper Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) held strong tallying three saves to conclude the first period.

The Pride would get on the board in the second period when senior Jerry Alcius (Mattapan, Mass.) converted a corner kick from Ricardo Arguetta (Los Angeles, Calif.) to even the score at 1-1. Regis rallied back quickly with another offensive charge by junior Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) who broke through the Eagles defense for a one on one shot that was stonewalled by Keene.

The Eagles would push the ball on offense but could not get a tally by the end of regulation forcing the game to go into the first overtime period. The Pride's defense held strong under the play of senior goalkeeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) who tallied a crucial save off a well placed shot from Eagle midfielder Alex Jackson to keep the score tied at 1-1. This defensive stand allowed the game to enter into the second overtime period.

In the second overtime period both team would jockey for ball position and send off a flurry of corner kicks, but neither team could convert with the final tally being 1-1 at the end of the 110th minute.

The Eagles next matchup is Saturday when they travel to play fellow NECC opponent Elms College.
