JONATHON'S TALLY IN 84TH MINUTE DOWNS PRIDE

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team fell victim to three second half goals in a 3-2 setback to Elms College on Tuesday evening in NECC men's soccer action at Leary Field in Chicopee, Mass. The Pride dips below .500 at 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the NECC while the Blazers snapped a three-game losing skid and improves to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. Elms sophomore Ziggy Jonathon (Springfield, Mass.) netted the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to break a 2-2 tie.

After Regis took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass.) in the 10th minute of play, neither side registered a score until the 49th minute when Jonathan scored the first of his two goals on a pass by junior midfielder Tavish Leland (Bridgton, Maine) to even the game at 1-1.

The Pride regained the lead when Jerry Alcius (Mattapan, Mass.), who assisted on Regis' first goal, found the back of the net himself at the 53:35 mark to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, Elms responded when Leland delivered a nice touch pass to sophomore defender Brendan Reed (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who blasted the ball to the top left corner of the net knotting the game at 2-2.

With time in regulation dwindling, Leland was in the right place at the right time once more, connecting with Jonathan for a second time in the 84th minute with what proved to be the game-clinching goal in the lower right corner of the net.

Regis' Angel Aguilar (Silver Spring, Md.) and Alcius added an assist each on Fidalgo's goal, while goalkeeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) turned away seven shots in the losing effort. Blazers' senior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) played well between the pipes, tallying seven saves en route to the victory.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Mitchell College in an NECC match scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Elms also returns to NECC action on Saturday, Oct. 1 when it travels to Lesley University for an 8:30 p.m. contest.
