SIX DIFFERENT PRIDE PLAYERS SCORE IN 6-1 WIN

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team had six different players score a goal in the first half en route to a 6-1 win over visiting Wheelock College in NECC action on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. With the win, the Pride pushes its record back to .500 at 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the NECC while the Wildcats drop to 0-4 and 0-1 in conference play this season.

The Pride came out firing to start the game, holding a 7-0 edge in shots through the first 12 minutes of play. Regis finally broke through when Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) played a beautifully placed cross to the back post that Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass.) promptly headed into the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. Tavares later added a tally of his own as he chipped the ball over the Wheelock keeper's head and deposited the ball into the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Wade Thongsythavong (Lynn, Mass.) got involved in the scoring as he corralled a missed header attempt from Fidalgo on a corner kick and bent the ball into the bottom left corner from 20 yards out. Ibrahim Alpha (Pennsauken, N.J.) later scored an unassisted goal as he handled the ball down the right side and laced a shot opposite post for the 4-0 lead. Both Sean O'Brien (Westerly, R.I.) and George Herrera (Lynn, Mass.) added tallies off passes from Jerry Alcius (Mattapan, Mass.) to give the Pride a 6-0 lead headed into the half.

The Pride held a 23-0 edge in shots in the first half and also attempted eight corner kicks to none for Wheelock. Sunshine Shearer (English Harbour, Antigua) made four saves in the period to backstop the Wildcats.

Regis continued to fire away in the second half, taking 11 more shots in the frame. However, Shearer was up to the task as the sophomore keeper made eight more saves in the period to keep the Pride off the board. Wheelock received its only score of the game when Jonathon Krouse (Northboro, Mass.) was awarded a free kick from about 20 yards out and laced a bullet into the back of the net over the Regis defensive wall for his third goal of the season with under 18 minutes to play in the game.

Regis outshot the Wildcats 34-4 for the game and attempted 12 corner kicks in the contest. Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) picked up his fifth win of the season in net while sophomore Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) played the entire second half and had a pair of saves. Sunshine Shearer suffered the setback, while making 12 stops on the day.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Elms College for an NECC matchup with the Blazers at 4:30 p.m. Wheelock steps out of conference play on Monday afternoon when they take on Emerson at 3:30 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
