PRIDE PUSHES PAST PILGRIMS 3-2

WESTON, Mass. –The Regis College men's soccer team defeated New England College by the score of 3-2, late Wednesday night at the Regis College Athletic Complex. The Pride moves to 4-3 on the season, while the Pilgrims drop to 1-3 overall on the season.

 The Pride got on the board first, when Nick Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) headed a corner kick from Ricardo Arguetta  (Los Angeles, Calif.) into the back of the net. This goal was the lone tally in the first period with the Pride controlling the lead 1-0 at the close of the 45th minute.

The Pilgrims answered back in the second period with a shot by Timothy Cachat (Dalton, Mass.) who was able to juke past the Pride defense and find top corner to even the score at 1-1.  The Pilgrims fired off a flurry of shots on Pride goaltender Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) but could not convert. LaMacchia finished the game with eight saves.

The Pride's offense got rolling in the second period when Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) connected on a corner kick from Angel Aguilar (Silver Springs, Md.) to put the Pride up 2-1. The Pride's third goal of the game would start with a clean throw in from Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) who found a wide open Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass.) on the crease for a well placed header, this put the Pride up 3-1.

The Pilgrims offense started to click with five minutes left in the second period. Aaron Kolb (New Durham, N.H.) notched the Pilgrims second goal of the game off a cross kick from Julian Yourawski (Peabody, Mass.). This tally cut the Pride's lead to one, but was not enough as the Pride ran out the last minute of play to secure the win. The Pilgrims goaltender Robbie Fuller (Lyndeborough, N.H.) finished the game with two saves.

The Crimson and Gold return to action this Saturday when they travel to Wilmington, Vermont to take on the Mountaineers from Southern Vermont College. The Pilgrims will return to action Saturday when they travel to Nashua, New Hampshire to take on the Eagles from Daniel Webster College.
