REGIS SCORES TWICE IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE TO STUN EMERSON

BOSTON, Mass.Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) scored the game-tying goal with eleven seconds remaining and Ricardo Arguetta (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored only 44 seconds into overtime to help Regis College sneak past Emerson College in overtime, 3-2, on Thursday night at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass. The Pride improve to 3-1 on the year while Emerson falls to 0-1.

The first half started out with an even tempo for both teams as the Lions launched six shots to Regis' three, with the Lions striking first in the eighth minute with Evan Gooden taking a ball from Jon Havens to send a finesse shot past Regis' Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) to take the lead. The Pride were able to score the equalizer in the 14th minute of play after Ricky Guyette (Medway, Mass.) laced a deflected ball into the net. The rest of the half remained quiet as it headed to the second knotted at one.

The second half proved to be a bit more physical as Emerson made a strong push at Regis, getting off eight shots, however, Andrew LaMacchia was up to the task, making five saves in the period. In the 62nd minute, EC's Jon Havens managed to place a shot into the corner of the net and give the Lions the 2-1 advantage.

Emerson believed it had its first win of the season wrapped up until a fatal misstep by the Lions with mere seconds left gave Regis the breakaway opportunity they were seeking. A long ball played right to the feet of Steve Tavares left him one-on-one with Emerson's Noah Price, Tavares would win the duel, placing a shot top corner to tie the game with only 11 seconds remaining on the clock

Regis did not need much of the first overtime to wrap up its third win of the season as Ricardo Arguetta took a clean breakaway a mere 44 seconds into the OT and placed a long shot from about 35 yards out into the top left corner, just over the outstretched hands of Noah Price.

Regis returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for a matchup with Medaille at 5:30 p.m. The Lions continue the search for their first win of the season when they take on conference foe Lasell on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Newton, Mass.
