RENATO CAPOBIANCO TAKES OVER REGIS MEN'S SOCCER

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Renato Capobianco has been named head soccer coach for the men’s soccer team. Capobianco’s appointment is effective immediately and he will start advising the team in the following weeks.

“Regis is extremely fortunate to have hired a coach with the experience and caliber of Coach Capobianco,” announced Athletic Director Marybeth Lamb. “I am confident that he will build the team into a soccer powerhouse within the New England Collegiate Conference.”

Capobianco is a veteran in the coaching world with 25 years of coaching experience. He has spent time coaching both collegiate and professional teams. Capobianco first broke into the coaching world in 1989 where for five seasons he was the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Cuyamaca College (Calif.). In 1991, he was named the Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year.

Capobianco started his professional coaching career in Major League Soccer serving as an Assistant Coach for both the Tampa Bay Mutiny and New England Revolution from 1996-2001 while also spending time as the Director of Soccer Operations for the San Jose Earthquakes and Revolution during that time. In 1996, he was the Assistant Coach of the East Team of the MLS All-Star Game.

Capobianco brings a diverse set of skill to the men’s soccer program. He is a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He has previous experience in training athletes as a strength and conditioning coach at Harvard University. Capobianco holds a Masters Degree in Exercise Science from San Diego State University.

Renato currently serves as a Head Coach for the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program as well as the U-16 Coach for Lexington United.

Coach Capobianco and the Regis College men’s soccer team make their debut on September 1st when the Pride host Mount Ida in a non-conference matchup at 7:00 p.m. on the campus of Regis College.
