PRIDE PLAYS TO 0-0 TIE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 23, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team and Regis played to a 0-0 tie after regulation and two overtime sessions in The Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt Saturday afternoon. The Chargers go to 7-7-3 overall and 6-3-3 in TCCC play, while Regis moves to 4-11-2 overall and 1-9-2 in the conference.

The Chargers controlled the pace for much of the game, but neither team could take advantage of their scoring opportunities. The best chance to break the 0-0 tie came in the 82nd minute. Colby-Sawyer had a myriad of chances in close range, but Regis was able to keep the ball from finding the back of the net. Junior Derek Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) fired the first shot, which hit the post and bounced to senior Doug McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) who headed a ball that was saved by a Regis defender. Sophomore Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) then controlled the ball and ripped a shot only to have it saved by Regis keeper Ryne Tillman (Bedford, Mass.).

Colby-Sawyer had two more chances in the second overtime to earn the victory, but Veilleux hit the crossbar and a Stotz header was denied by Tillman.

Colby-Sawyer junior Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.) earned his eighth shutout of the season setting a new single season school record for shutouts.

Tillman was solid in net as he stopped all 13 shots on goal from the home team.

Colby-Sawyer will play at #14 Bowdoin tomorrow at 2:00 pm. Regis will play its regular season finale at Roger Williams on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
