FIDALGO FINISHES COLONELS IN OVERTIME 1-0

Weston, Mass.---The Regis College men's soccer  team defeated Curry College Saturday (Oct. 16)  by the score of 1-0.  The Pride Improves to 4-10-1 overall on the season and 1-8-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The visiting Colonels move to 6-10 overall on the season and 3-7 in TCCC Play.

Leading the Pride on defense was freshman goalkeeper Ryne Tillman (Bedford, Mass. /Bridgeton Academy) who finished the game with eight saves. The Colonels were led by Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass. /Somerset) who had a team high six shots. Both teams played aggressive and jockeyed for ball position throughout the first and second periods.  The Colonels mounted a comeback with a barrage of shots in the final minute of play, but Tilman stood strong and warded off the late rally.  Regulation ended in a 0-0 tie forcing an overtime period of ten minutes.

The overtime period started with an exchange of possessions in the offensive zones. Sadlers was able to connect on a pass from fellow teammate Brandon Martins (Attleboro, Mass. /Attleboro) for a shot, but missed high.  This gave the Pride the opportunity to get a clear down the field. The clear was picked up by Pride junior Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College) who punted the ball past Colonels goalkeeper Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, NJ. / The Kent School) for the game winning goal in the overtime period.

The Pride are set to take on Eastern Nazarene College (Oct. 19) at 7:00 pm.
