PRIDE FALL TO BISON 4-1

DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 14) – The Nichols College men's soccer team scored four second-half goals to defeat Regis College, 4-1, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Thursday afternoon. Nichols improves to 10-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in TCCC games, while Regis falls to 3-9-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference action.

Junior Dan Smith (Verona, N.J.) scored a pair of goals for the Bison, while Mike Schell (South Windsor, Conn.) and Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) each added a goal and an assist.

Nichols controlled the game from the outset, but could not solve Regis first year goalkeeper Ryne Tillman (Bedford, Mass.) in the opening stanza as the rookie thwarted five attempts. His counterpart, Nichols junior Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) was tested twice in the opening frame and was aided by the crossbar in the 10th minute.

Smith broke the scoreless tie early in the second half by tapping in a cross from Coderre in the 54th minute. In the 70th minute, Pat Gaumond (Holden, Mass.) played a through ball that Schell would finish for a 2-0 lead, but a Bison defensive miscue led to an own goal in the 74th minute to cut the home team's lead in half.

The Bison got back on track in the final 10 minutes of the game with a pair of goals just over six minutes apart as Schell passed to Coderre in the middle of the box where the sophomore placed his shot in the lower left. Smith capped the scoring with less than a minute left in the game for a 4-1 final.

Tillman made nine second-half saves to finish with 14 in the game, while Hamilton finished with two. Nichols held a 39-8 overall shot advantage in the game.

The Bison are back in action Saturday in an 11 a.m. home TCCC game against Colby-Sawyer. Regis hosts Curry Saturday at 4 p.m. for a TCCC matchup.
