REGIS COLLEGE TO TAKE ON SALVE REGINA SATURDAY

WESTON, Mass.—In its fourth conference match-up of the season, Regis College men’s soccer (3-4-1, 0-2-1 TCCC) will hope to capture its first conference win at Salve Regina University (September 25). The Seahawks (5-2, 3-0 TCCC) are undefeated in The Commonwealth Coast Conference play this season, and handed Regis College a 3-0 loss in 2009.

As a team, Regis College is shooting just 38 percent on goal, while opponents are shooting 61 percent. The Pride is scoring 1.12 goals a game, and attempting just 11 shots a game. Regis has taken 87 shots to score nine goals this season. Salve Regina is scoring just below three goals a game, while maintaining a comparable shots on goal percentage (.457) to its opponents.

Junior Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College) leads the Regis team with three goals scored this season, which is one better than his 2009 performance.

Having added a deal of new talent to the team, head coach Jonathan Keefe has utilized the athletic ability of his freshmen in the best ways possible. Five different freshmen have posted at least one goal this season.

Ibriham Alpha (Pennesauken, N.J.), Angel Aguilar (Silver Spring, Md.), Chris Millington (Huntington, N.Y.), Lance Okey (Oregon, Ohio), and Nick Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) have all posted a score.

Alpha also has two assists, and leads the team with 16 shots. Sean Crawford and Shawn McDonough have dished assists this season as well.

Salve Regina has scored 19 goals this season. Sean McAlliser has a team-high seven, and four assists. Teammate Ken Johnson has five goals, and three assists.

The Seahawks have given up just seven goals on the season, and defensively have limited its opponents to a .093 shot percentage. Four of Salve Regina’s wins have come by shutout by from one of the Seahawks three talented keepers. Devin O’Gorman has started and played in five games this season, and has a team-high 22 saves for Salve.

In comparison, Ryne Tillman (Bedford, Mass.) has 49 saves for Regis College.

The Pride will surely put forth a battle in this conference match-up. With its full team ready to play, the offense and defense for Regis College should have successful days if they create opportunity, and hold Salve from taking many scoring chances.
