PRIDE PLAYS NOR'EASTERS TO A 1-1 DRAW

Weston, Mass.---The Regis College men's soccer team and the University of New England's men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie Saturday (Sept. 18) at the Regis College Athletic Fields. The Pride improves to 3-3-1 on the season, while the visiting Nor'easter's move to 2-2-1.

Leading the Pride on offense was junior Shawn McDonough (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) who scored in the first half with an astounding bicycle kick to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Pride. On defense Ryne Tillman (Bedford, Mass./Bridgton Academy) helped keep the Nor'easter's scoreless in the first half with his keen clearing ability.

The Pride entered the second half with a one goal lead and continued to play great team defense. Then late in the second half Nor'easters junior Owen Evans (West Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional) was able to break through the Pride's defense and score tying the game at 1-1. As the end of regulation ensued both offenses became stagnant and the second half ended in a 1-1 draw.

In overtime, tensions mounted as the game became more physical resulting in penalties for both sides. The Nor'easter's Drazen Smith (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow Union)was issued a yellow card and the Pride's Nickolas Tavares (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) was issued a red card ejecting him from the game. In the first overtime both opponents failed to score, resulting in a second final overtime period which ended again in a 0-0 draw. The tie game was the first for the Pride and the second for the Visiting Nor'easter's.

The Pride is set to play New England College (Sept. 22) at 4:00 pm.  The Nor'easter's next game is (Sept. 21) against Endicott College and is set to start at 6:30 pm.
