PRIDE BEAT NIGHTHAWKS 2-0

Weston, Mass.---The Regis College men's soccer team defeated Newbury College Tuesday (Sept. 14) by the score of 2-0.  The first goal of the night was scored when freshman Nicholas Tavares (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham)  caught a pass from fellow Pride teammate Shawn McDonough (Framingham, Mass./Framingham)  and found the back of the net.

The Pride continued to control the ball for most of the first quarter. On defense the Pride were led by freshman goalkeeper Stefan Todorovic (Valley Village, Calif./Notre Dame) who finished the first half with two saves. At the half the Pride entered the second period up by one goal. Late in the second half freshman Ibriham Alpha (Pennsauken, Nj./Pennsauken)) was able to break through the Nighthawks defense and get a pass off to junior Josh Fidalgo (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College) who scored the Pride's second goal.

The Nighthawks played tough defense throughout the game making it hard for Pride strikers to get off uncontested shots. This tough defense came to a high point when Nighthawks junior Andi Maska (Roslindale, Mass./English) was issued a yellow card.  Leading the Nighthawks on defense was junior goalkeeper William McNally (Grafton, Mass./Marian) with three saves in the game. The Pride was able to match the Nighthawks intensity on the defensive side of the ball by not allowing the Nighthawks to score in the second period. Todorovic finished the game with three saves on the day for the Pride.

The Pride will host the University of New England this Saturday (Sept. 18) at 4:00 pm. The Nighthawks next match is set for Thursday (Sept. 16) against Brandeis University at 6:30pm.
