REGIS COLLEGE FALLS IN MIDDAY MATCH-UP

WESTON, Mass.—Three different Emerson (1-0) players tallied goals Monday afternoon to defeat Regis College (2-1) 3-0. The Lions Mike Giles (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingston) scored the first goal unassisted at 30:40. Teammates Dave Castano (Long Beach, N.J.) and Jacob Lawrence (Clifton, Va./Centerfield) marked the second and third goals respectively.

Each team battled through much of the first half, pressuring the other team's defense to stop its offensive attack. Giles was able to register his first shot against the post, but collecting his rebound he was able to beat Regis' Ryne Tillman (Bedford, Mass./Bridgeton Academy) for the goal. Tillman had four saves against seven shots on goal.

Giles had two shots and an equal number of shots on goal in his 90-minutes of play. Castano and Lawrence each registered a shot. Fortunately for the Lions those shots were on goal, and credited as scores. Castano's goal was assisted by teammate Bobby Pico (Woodstock, Conn./Woodstock).

Eric Dabdoub (Monterrey, Mexico/American) had a team-high three shots, and assisted on the Lawrence goal in the 73rd minute.

Comparatively the teams were equal through much of the stats sheet. Emerson recorded 13 shots, while Regis had eight (four each half). The Lions took one more corner (2) than did Regis, and committed eight fouls; including a yellow card. Regis recorded two yellow cards.

The Pride will return to the pitch Wednesday (Sept. 8). Emerson will play at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on September 8 as well.
