WORCESTER, Mass. – Facing an NCAA Division I program in the regular season for the second time in program history, Regis College fell behind early and could not overcome Holy Cross's hot shooting, as the Crusaders defeated the Pride, 82-46, Sunday afternoon to finish its play for 2024.
Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) led the Pride with 11 points with seven rebounds and four steals while shooting 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 at the free throw line shooting 75 percent.
Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.) finished with nine points and Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass. ) paced Regis on the boards with six rebounds.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 13-0 lead featuring four three-pointers with all different scorers. Regis answered with a layup by Harvey assisted by Sullivan, but the Crusaders came right back with a 4-2 scoring run over the next four minutes.
The home team continued to pull away late in the first half to go on a 7-4 scoring run featuring three free throws and a three-pointer by Joe Nugent to close out the first half 36-20.
The Crusaders continued to shoot the ball well in the second half, hitting 52.9 percent ( 18-of-34) of their field goal attempts after halftime. For the game, Holy Cross shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the field, including 9-of-11 from behind the three-point line.
Five players reached double figures in points for the Crusaders, led by Max Green with 16 points and Aidan Richard with 13 points. Declan Ryan notched 12 points with five rebounds while Joe Nugent contributed 11 points with five rebounds and one steal.
As a team, Regis was held to 26.9 percent (18-for-67) field goal shooting. Holy Cross used its height advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Pride 45-38, resulting in a final of 82-46.
Regis College (5-4) heads to Springfield College on Wednesday, Jan. 1 to compete in the Naismith Classic beginning at 5:00 p.m.
