Regis Men’s Hoop Receives NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Regis College men's basketball team enjoyed a winning season not only on the basketball court, but also in the classroom, as the Pride received the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), announced Thursday, July 20, by the organization.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes collegiate men's basketball programs at all levels that completed the 2022-23 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Over 300 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2022-23.

Regis College is one of two 2022-23 members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to receive the award along with Emmanuel College. Mitchell College, entering the GNAC starting in the 2023-24 academic year, also earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award during its final year in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

This is the first time Regis College has received the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award in program history as the Pride placed multiple student-athletes on the GNAC All-Academic Team for the fifth straight year. Tate Pike (Bellingham, Mass.), Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.), and Silas Sawtelle (Canton, Conn.) collected Academic All-GNAC honors for 2022-23, with Pike also earning a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

The Pride posted a 14-12 overall record in 2022-23, including a 10-8 record within the league to finish in a tie for third place in the GNAC South Division and qualify for the GNAC Men's Basketball Tournament for the third straight opportunity. Rau earned Second Team All-GNAC recognition after averaging 16.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Regis College sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, including men's basketball, within NCAA Division III as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
