FRANKLIN, Mass. - Regis College defeated Dean College, 77-70 Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball action at Pieri Gymnasium.
Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) led the Pride with 15 points while Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned the double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) added 10 points coming off the bench.
With the score tied at 13 points apiece halfway through the first, Tate Pike (Bellingham, Mass.) scored a layup to jumpstart a 12-0 scoring run for the Pride. A three-pointer by Rau and twos by Harvey and Wilkins contributed to the run which was capped off with a free throw by Pike. From there, Regis held onto its lead, finishing the half up, 35-23.
Dean battled back throughout the second half, cutting the deficit to just three points (66-63) with 1:25 remaining in regulation. Shortly after, Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) knocked down a three-pointer while the Pride managed to shoot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to close out the game and keep the Bulldogs at bay.
Aj Weston led Dean and all scorers with 24 points while Malik Spearman added 19 points and 16 rebounds. Charles Walker contributed 10 points coming off the bench.
Regis shot 48.3 percent (28-58) from the field compared to 38.5 percent (25-65) for the Bulldogs. The Pride managed to outrebound the home team by a margin of 41-38 while scoring 42 points in the paint compared to 26 for Dean.
Regis College (14-11, 10-8 GNAC) plays in the GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals as the S3 seed, taking on the N2 seed Saint Joseph College in a road contest Tuesday, Feb. 21, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
