STANDISH, Maine - Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College, 68-58, Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at the Harold Alfond Center.
Four Regis players finished with double-digit scoring performances, led by Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) with 16 points while Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) earned the double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) also finished with 11 while Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) scored 10 coming off the bench.
The Pride led for a large portion of the first half, taking an early lead four minutes into the game when Evelyn knocked down a three-pointer to put the Pride up by two (9-7). Consecutive layups by Wilkins and a free throw and a layup by Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) extended the Pride's lead to five (16-11) halfway through the period.
Near the end of the half, a layup by Thompson put Regis up by five (30-25) but three-pointers by Julian Llopiz and Nicholas Curtis retook the lead for the Monks while a pair of layups by Wani Donato and Llopiz extended the home team's advantage to four (35-31) by the end of the first.
Saint Joseph's lead extended to seven points after Curtis knocked down another three to start the second, but the Pride battled back with a layup by Thompson and a pair of free throws putting the visitors within three points of the lead (40-37) with just over 14 minutes remaining in regulation.
The barrage of three-pointers continued as the Monks took a 10-point lead (47-37) off a three by Llopiz halfway through the second. From there, the home team maintained its lead taking a game-high 15-point lead (57-42) off a layup by Teagan Hayes while outscoring the Pride by a margin of 33-27 in the second half.
Llopiz was the leading scorer for the Monks, scoring 14 points off the bench while Donato also came off the bench, finishing with 12 points on the night. Griffin Foley also finished with 12 while Curtis hit three threes for nine points.
Regis College (13-11, 9-8 GNAC) closes out the regular season at Dean College Saturday, Feb. 18, with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
