Pride Pull Away with Key Conference Road Win

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Regis College used hot shooting and tough defense to pull away in the second half for an 86-64 victory over Norwich University Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Andrews Gym.

Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) notched his ninth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds, plus he earned two assists, four steals, and a blocked shot. Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also scored 19 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals, Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, R.I.) hit five three-pointers to finish with 15 points, and Cam Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) added 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists off the bench.

Norwich scored the first four points of the game, but Regis quickly responded with 10 unanswered points, featuring consecutive three-pointers from Juvens Dalger (Oakland Park, Fla.), to take the lead for good. The Cadets pulled within one on a layup by Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe and a three-pointer from Caleb Casinas, but a Rosa three-pointer kept the Pride on top as the two teams basically traded points the rest of the first half.

Ahead 34-29 at halftime, the Pride eventually extended their advantage into double figures, 50-38, on consecutive three-pointers by Thompson and Rosa. The Cadets could get no closer than seven points behind the rest of the way as Regis put the game away with a 15-2 scoring run over a three-minute span late in the second half.

Casinas led the Cadets with 19 points, while Kyle Booth finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists. As a team, Norwich shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field, including 6-of-14 from behind the three-point line, and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.

The Pride shot 48.4 percent (31-of-64) from the field, including 11-of-23 from behind the three-point line, and 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the free throw line. Regis enjoyed a slight rebounding edge, 39-35, and scored 21 points off 18 Norwich turnovers. The Pride also tied their season low by committing just nine turnovers.

Regis (7-14, 3-4 GNAC) hosts GNAC leader University of Saint Joseph Wednesday, Feb. 12, starting at 6 p.m. at Higgins Court. The Pride are currently tied for seventh in the league standings with four games remaining over the next two weeks.
