NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Regis College men's basketball team lost to Connecticut College, 87-58, Tuesday night in a non-conference contest at the Charles B. Luce Field House.
Cam Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) led the Pride with 12 points, plus he pulled down six rebounds. Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with nine points and eight rebounds, while Josh Germain (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) also scored nine points to go along with five rebounds.
Connecticut College scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back, eventually extending its lead to 26-7 midway through the first half on a dunk by Dan Draffan. The Pride put together a 9-2 scoring run to close to within 12, but the Camels answered with a 12-4 scoring run of their own, taking a 43-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made a layup to open the second half, the Camels scored seven unanswered points, and then they put the game away with a 15-2 scoring stretch over a six-minute span.
All five Connecticut College starters scored at least eight points apiece, led by Draffan with 18 points. Jeff Allen finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Ben McPherron contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Connecticut College (4-16) shot 53.8 percent (35-of-65) from the field and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the free throw line. The Camels held the Pride to 33.9 percent (21-of-62) field goal shooting, plus they scored 31 points off 23 Regis turnovers.
Regis (6-14) enters the home stretch of the regular season with five more conference games, starting with a trip to Vermont to face Norwich Saturday, Feb. 8, starting at 3 p.m. The Pride return home next Wednesday, Feb. 12, to face conference leader University of Saint Joseph beginning at 6 p.m. at Higgins Court.
