NIGHTHAWKS SOAR PAST PRIDE, 63-50

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Behind Peterson Bernard's (Boston, Mass.) double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds, the Newbury College Nighthawks defeated the Regis College Pride, 63-50 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball action on Tuesday night. The Pride fall to 5-14 on the season and 5-5 in league play, while Newbury improves to 11-8, 9-1 NECC.

After trailing 17-9 early in the opening half, the Pride began to claw back. A Carlos Bermudez-Glean (Boston, Mass.) three-pointer at the 7:19 mark sparked a 9-0 run by the Pride, and Ethan Peana (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored six unanswered points during that stretch to put the visitors ahead for the first time on the night.

The Nighthawks responded with a run of their own, outscoring the Pride 15-4 in the waning minutes to close out the half with a 32-22 lead. Newbury's Tim Young (Brockton, Mass.) led all scorers in the first half with 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Peana led Regis with eight first half points after coming off the bench.

Back-to-back three pointers from Bermudez-Glean and Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) at 11:53 and 11:30 in the second half brought the Pride within one point of the Nighthawks, but that would be as close as Regis would get. Bernard and Young scored 10 points and 7 points in the second half, respectively, to help Newbury hold on for the 63-50 win.

Bermudez-Glean would finish a stellar 4-for-5 on three-pointers to lead the Pride with 14 points on the night. The freshman also chipped in with a game-high five steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Chambers finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists for the Pride.

Regis will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host Southern Vermont at 3:00 p.m.
