PRIDE DROP ROAD CONTEST TO WORCESTER STATE
Dane Jobst (Athol, Mass.) proved to be too much for visiting Regis College, as the junior scored a game-high 27 points and added 11 boards to help Worcester State get past the Pride, 82-58 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Saturday evening.
WORCESTER, Mass. - Dane Jobst (Athol, Mass.) proved to be too much for visiting Regis College, as the junior scored a game-high 27 points and added 11 boards to help Worcester State get past the Pride, 82-58 in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday evening.
The Pride, who fall to 0-6 on the season, were led by freshman guard Carlos Bermudez-Glean (Boston, Mass.), who poured in a career high 20 points in the losing effort. Sophomore Evin Matted (Hartford, Conn.) also chipped in for the Crimson & Gold, tallying seven points, four boards, and three blocks for the visitors.
After a three point jumper by junior Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) gave the Pride an 8-5 advantage at the 16:31 mark of the first half, the Lancers went on to outscore Regis 34-18 to close out the first half. Junior Robert Hunter (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 11 of his 20 points in the opening half, including a 5-for-5 showing at the charity stripe.
As the Lancers (3-1) continued to maintain their double-digit margin, the Pride tried to claw their way back into the game after a converted free throw by freshman Mike Downing (Brockton, Mass.) made it an 11 point game with 12:17 left to play (52-41). Unfortunately that would be as close as the Pride would get as WSU held on for the win after senior Clayton Timas (New Bedford, Mass.) was able to spark a 17-8 run to close out the game, highlighted by two dunks.
Regis shot 33 percent from behind the arc (5-for-15) and held the 24-21 lead in points off of turnovers. The Pride also blocked seven shots and swiped 10 steals as a team.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday night when the Lancers travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off and Regis returns home to take on Lesley at 7:30 p.m.
