CHAMBERS KEEPS SCORING TOUCH GOING IN WIN OVER WHEELOCK

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore guard Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Regis College men's basketball team over host Wheelock College, 58-48, in a New England Collegiate Conference contest this evening at Brunelli Court on the campus of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Pride win their second straight game to improve to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in NECC play, while the Wildcats fall to 4-8 and 2-2.

Regis held Wheelock to just 29.8% (17-57) shooting from the field for the game.

Wheelock owned an 8-5 margin following a put back from junior forward Bashir Hudson (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) with 12:35 showing in the first half, but Regis scored the next five points to take a 10-8 lead at the 7:50 mark before senior point guard Kyle Pierce (Burlington, Mass.) knotted the contest for the Wildcats with a pair of free throws just over a minute later. The Pride put together a 14-3 burst, fueled by five points apiece from sophomore forward Robert Edwards (Memphis, Tenn.) and senior guard Jonathon Josselin (Medford, Mass.), and never looked back as they took a 24-13 advantage with 3:15 remaining in the half. Regis took a 27-19 lead into the intermission.

Senior guard Max Kaim (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) connected on a jump shot for Wheelock at 14:17 of the second stanza to pull the home team to within 32-27, but the Pride responded with a 16-6 stretch to take their largest lead of the night at 48-33 with 6:52 to play in the game. Regis maintained a 50-35 cushion with five and a half minutes play go, before the Wildcats made one last effort to climb back into the contest, scoring 13 of the next 16 points, led by six points from Pierce, to come to within 53-48 with 22 ticks left on the clock. That would be as close as they would get as the Pride closed out the game with five straight points, including four free throws from sophomore guard Ahmad Charles (Cambridge, Mass.) to secure the victory.

Chambers was 5-of-8 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range and a perfect 4-4 from the line for Regis in addition to grabbing six rebounds, dishing out a pair of assists and coming up with a steal. Josselin finished with 11 points, eight boards, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot, while Edwards chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, an assist and a pair of blocked shots.

Kaim led Wheelock with 15 points and added three rebounds, two steals and an assist, while senior center Eric Rice (Woburn, Mass.) contributed with 12 points, three boards, two blocks and a helper. Hudson came off the bench to pull down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with seven points, two steals, an assist and a block in 23 minutes of action.

The Pride returns to action next Tuesday night as Wheelock and Regis meet again at 7:30 p.m.
