NEAL, FERNANDES, AND ALIBRANDI NAMED STUDENT ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College Athletic department is proud to announce the student athletes of the week.  Michael Fernandes (Granby, Mass./Granby), Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass./Brighton), and Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine./York) have been named student athletes of the week for their season long performances.

The three seniors are the first men’s basketball team members to play all four seasons in the program. This season they used their senior experience and leadership to direct the team to the first playoff game in the programs history.  Alibrandi and Neal are also the first men’s team players to score 1,000 points in a four-year career. 

Neal was nominated for his strong performance over the season.  This performance awarded him second team all Commonwealth Coast Conference honors. Neal averaged a team high of 13.5 points per game and tallied 61 steals on the season. Neal is currently the number one scorer in Regis College men’s basketball history with a total of 1,251 points.

 Fernandes has been an integral part of the Pride over his four seasons. He has brought depth to the offense and has contributed vital minutes late in games.  Fernandes has tallied 98 points on the season and caused 20 steals on the season.  Over his four year career with the Pride, Fernandes has compiled 298 points and free-throw percentage of 52.7.

Alibrandi has been the team leader in rebounds averaging 5.8 per game for the Pride.  Alibrandi has stepped up his offensive production in the past few games increasing his average to 10.5 points per game this season.  His 15 points in the playoff game against Salve brought his career total to 1,005.
