DERRICK NEAL NAMED ALL-TCCC SECOND TEAM MEMBER

WESTON, Mass.—Senior Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass./Brighton) was announced to The Commonwealth Coast Conference All-TCCC Second Team Monday. This is Neal’s second announcement to the all-conference team. His first recognition came in 2008-09, his sophomore year.

Neal scored 13.9 points per game in his senior season, averaged 37 percent shooting from behind the three-point arc, and 42 percent from the field. He scored a season-high 26 points in a conference game versus Curry, but scored a career-high 31 points against Endicott (02/07/2009). Also during the 2008-09 season, Neal posted 30 points versus New England College (01/21/2009).

During the 2010-11 season Neal ranks nationally (No. 36) in steals per game with 2.5. He also placed in the top 50 in three categories in 2008-09. Neal ranked No. 30 in steals per game (2.5), No. 43 in three-point field goal attempts, but had his best finish (No. 17) in three-point field goals percentage, having made 44 percent of his attempts.

In his senior campaign, Neal led Regis College with 15.0 points per game versus conference opponents, and placed in the top 15 (t-12th) within conference players. He ranked first in the TCCC in steals with 2.67 steals per game.

Neal has been a four-starter for Regis College, and had a breakout sophomore year that solidified Neal’s prowess within the conference. That year Neal scored an average of 17.1 points per game, shot 45 percent from the field, and 44 percent from behind the three-point arc.

In his four years at Regis College, this will be the programs first appearance in the conference playoffs. Along with other firsts in history, Neal was the first to score 1,000 career-points in Regis College men’s basketball history. He scored his 1,000th career points versus Newbury College. To date Neal has amassed 1,259 points. With the quarterfinal game Tuesday, Neal has the chance to add to his current total.

Regis College will host No. 5 Salve Regina in the TCCC quarterfinal game Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 PM.
