CHAMBERS HITS GAME-WINNING SHOT FOR REGIS COLLEGE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year guard Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) beat the buzzer with a bank shot from 35 feet to give the Regis College Pride a 66-64 win over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball action Thursday evening at the Campus Center.

Chambers' buzzer-beater came after junior guard Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) had given the Nor'easters a 64-63 advantage with a three-pointer from the top of the key with 4.4 seconds remaining.

After Winn's bucket, the Pride inbounded the ball to Chambers, who weaved his way around several UNE defenders to set-up his game-winning heave.

Chambers finished with a team-best 18 points for Regis (12-6, 5-1 TCCC). He was 4 of 9 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.) had 12 points and three steals, while senior guard Darrin Kelly (South Dennis, Mass.) added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

UNE was led by first-year guard Charles Fenner (Bronx, N.Y.), who posted a double-double with game highs of 20 points and 10 boards. Fenner was 5-for-9 from downtown with six of his caroms coming on the offensive glass. Winn finished with five treys and 16 points, while junior forward Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) contributed 11 points.

Down five (55-50) with 6:30 to play, the Pride reeled off 10 consecutive points over the next four minutes to forge a 60-55 advantage. Chambers and first-year LaQuinn Shuler (White Plains, N.Y.) accounted for nine of the 10 points during the spurt.

A conventional three-point play by senior Chas Rentrope (Peoria, Ariz.) drew the Nor'easters within two at 60-58, but Regis pushed the lead back to four (62-58) on a pair of freebies by Kelly with 1:17 on the clock.

Knotek converted a three-point play to make it a one-point game (62-61) with 49 seconds left before Schuler made 1 of 2 free throws with 14 ticks remaining to push the Regis' lead to two (63-61) and set the stage for what appeared to be a game-winning trey by Winn.

The Pride overcame 22 turnovers by making half of their field goals (22 of 44), including a 7-for-17 performance (41.2 percent) on three-point attempts.

Big Blue finished with 12 three-pointers and took solid care of the basketball with just 13 turnovers.

UNE (2-16, 0-6) led 32-29 at the half, knocking down seven trifectas and forcing 15 Regis miscues.

Both teams return to action Saturday with 3 p.m. conference home games. The Pride host Wentworth Institute of Technology while the Nor'easters entertain Western New England College.
