Weston, Mass.—Regis College (8-12, 4-4 TCCC) has been on a tough streak as of late against its The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents. Regis is 0-4 going into its game Saturday, Feb. 6 against Endicott College.
Playing statistically well versus Gordon College, just turning the ball over six times compared to the Scots 19 turnovers, Regis is capable of being a solid team. Endicott has been rather inconsistent offensively, losing 72-62 to Eastern Nazarene, a team that Regis beat by 12 points.
However, the Seagulls went 1-1 versus Gordon College, a team that defeated Regis 66-51. Here is a little insight into the Gulls.
Beach Birds…
Regis will not likely face another team that will be as offensively inconsistent as Endicott. Occasionally players will dribble once and pull-up for a shot, other times they will move the ball around until a shot opens up. Which team the Pride will face Saturday is yet to be determined.
Erik Gallo and Lance Greene lead the way in points per game for the Seagulls. Although he is scoring just 9.5 PPG, Callo has posted 161 total points in his 17 games. Greene is averaging a slightly higher per game number (15.3), but in eight fewer games.
Let us not make the mistake to think this will be a sure win for Regis. Endicott is capable of playing consistently, and could do so Saturday. Any team is beatable, and Endicott is not an exception.
May the Mighty Roar…
Having lost a winnable game against Gordon College Tuesday, Regis play by far its best game of the season from the looks of the box score. Regis committed just six turnovers in 40 minutes, the teams lowest of the season.
In comparison, it forced the Scots to commit 19 turnovers. Where Regis so its good fortune change was on the boards. Gordon had an impressive 54 rebounds to the Pride’s 21.
Give credit to Gordon that it had a larger team, but Regis must use its athletic ability to make up in areas that it lacks.
Endicott will not be much different in terms of size, with four player’s easily over 6 foot 5 inches, using Regis’ host of talents is a must.
Jesse Vega did not see much rest against Gordon, playing all 40 minutes. Vega contributed 19 points for the Pride, and will have to have a similar game versus Endicott. Vega must crash the boards to increase Regis’ second chance point opportunities.
As he and the Pride face another large team, in terms of size, some advice would be to force larger players into foul trouble early. Getting three big men to commit at least three fouls early will make the second half more of Regis’ game.
Darrin Kelly was the only other Regis player to post double figures Tuesday. A collective effort from the Pride’s able supporting cast is of the utmost importance.
