NEAL LEADS PRIDE WITH 22 POINTS

Weston, Mass.—Junior Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass.) had a team-high 22 points for Regis College (6-7, 2-0 TCCC) in route to a 61-53 victory over The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina (1-12, 0-2 TCCC).

Neal was a rebound short of having a double-double. He finished with 21 points on 8-of-18 (.500) shooting, 4-of-8 (.500) from the three-point line, and 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.

 

Two other Regis players added double figures for the Pride. James Cooper (Philadelphia, Pa) had 11 points and six assists for Regis College.

 

Teammate Ta’Keame Gomes (Cambridge, Mass.) contributed 10 points off the bench. He was 3-of-6 (.500) from the field, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

 

Salve Regina’s Dan Royce (Mahwah, N.J.) had a game-high 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. Royce also had 11 rebounds in his 38:00 minutes for the Seahawks.

 

Royce accounted for much of Salve’s offense.

 

Statistically the two teams were comparable from the free-throw line and field for the game. Salve Regina had the upper hand from the field, hitting 43 percent of its attempts, to Regis’ 37 percent.

 

Neither team had more than an eight-point lead for much of the game. Regis trailed Salve Regina 29-27 going into intermission. Regis outscored the Seahawks 34-24 in the second half.

 

Regis College will head to Curry College Jan. 16. Salve Regina will travel to the University of New England.
