Field Hockey Loses GNAC Contest to JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Regis College lost 5-0 to Johnson and Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats put their first goal on the board at 14:12 with Megan Salsinha pushing past the Pride defense to find the back of the net, leading 1-0. The Wildcats earned a penalty stroke just seconds before the end of the first quarter, however, they were unable to get past Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.).

The Pride held the Wildcats scoreless in the second quarter, to trail by one heading into halftime.

Johnson and Wales started off the third quarter with a goal by Izzy Ward on a pass from Zofia Bangs to lead with two. Just over one minute later, Bangs received the ball from Darian Shepherd finding the back of the net to extend the Wildcats lead. Johnson and Wales added an additional goal  in the 39th minute, to lead with four heading into the final quarter of the match.

With just over 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats scored on a penalty stroke to finish with a final of 5-0.

The Wildcats led 34-2 in shots, and 19-1 in corners.

Velez played all 60 minutes for the Pride making nine saves for the Pride.

Regis  (4-12, 3-8 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to Anna Maria on Wednesday, Oct.30, for a 6:00 p.m. start.  Johnson and Wales University (14-3, 11-0) is set to travel to University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 30, for a 4:00 p.m. start.
