WESTON, Mass. – Regis College was unable to overcome an early deficit to New England College, as the Pilgrims defeated the Pride, 6-2, Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey match at Regis Stadium.
New England College struck first just over nine minutes into the match as Drea Chin was met with a pass from Taylor Bailey to find the back of the net on a penalty corner. Regis responded by drawing a penalty corner just seconds later and taking a shot too wide to finish the first quarter trailing by one.
The Pilgrims second goal came in the 18th minute of action with Cristina Manzi connecting with Kylee Henriquez extending the Pilgrims lead to two. Less than a minute later Meaghan McCamish found the back of the net to increase the Pilgrims lead to three. With less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Chin found Bailey again for the fourth goal, leading 4-0 into halftime.
New England College collected two additional goals in the third quarter to extend their lead by six. The Pride responded in the fourth quarter with multiple penalty corners putting offensive pressure on the Pilgrims. Regis collected a penalty corner goal in the 50th minute after Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) sent a pass to Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.) to decresase the deficit and trail by five.
Regis kept offensive momentum flowing throughout the final quarter with an additional goal from Alley assisted by Costello finishing with a final of 6-2.
Sarai Velez (Everett, Mass.) started in net for the Pride just before Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) came in making one save off three shots on goal.
Regis (4-11, 3-7 GNAC) is set to travel to Johnson and Wales University on Saturday, Oct. 26, with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
New England College (13-3, 8-2 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to Elms College to face the Blazers on Saturday, Oct. 26, with an 11:00 a.m. start.
